About Us

Founded in 2024 by the Hackett family, Space City Tennis is dedicated to empowering junior tennis development programs within the Houston Independent School District.

The Hacketts have been committed to growing the game of tennis since hosting their first tournament in 1979.

Over the decades, they have owned tennis clubs, sponsored professional tournaments, funded free community clinics, and played a key role in launching the Austin Tennis Academy.

Now calling Houston home, the Hacketts are excited to support the local tennis community by helping every student-athlete reach their full potential, both on and off the court.

Karen Hackett (Coach Koko)

Following a successful career in the technology industry that began at IBM, Karen now devotes her time to growing the game of tennis while inspiring the next generation of players.

After moving to Houston, Karen joined Houston ISD (HISD) as an associate teacher, working in elementary schools as well as at Frank Black Middle School.

As CEO of Space City Tennis, she leads efforts focused on early player development, with a special emphasis on elementary school programs.

Don Hackett (Coach Don)

Don also began his career at IBM before becoming a serial entrepreneur, helping launch numerous tech companies and completing three IPOs.

His love for tennis has remained constant since organizing his first tournament in 1979.

Don has supported the growth of tennis across Texas by helping launch academies and sponsoring pro-level events. 

Don also joined HISD in 2024, serving with the HISD Police Department to provide crossing guard services at Oak Forest Elementary School, with a focus on student safety.

At Space City Tennis, he serves as the serving and doubles coach, guiding young players to perform their best in competitive match play.
