Garden Oaks Montessori Magnet (GOMM), a Title I, Part A school in the Houston Independent School District, is rooted in academic excellence, strong community partnerships, and a commitment to putting students first. Montessori education is a child-centered approach that uses specially designed materials and offers students significant choice and independence.
Installed a decade ago by the United States Tennis Association (USTA) and refurbished in June 2026, GOMM is now expanding its athletics programs to integrate Space City Tennis offerings. Starting in September 2026, USTA Red-Ball clinics will be held at GOMM on Wednesday and Thursday afternoons at 4:15 PM. These Red-Ball clinics cost $15 per session and are for first- and second-grade students who are just learning to play tennis.
Additional Orange and Yellow ball clinics are offered in the afternoon at Frank Black Middle School's Racquet Center. Each session costs $15, which funds the coaches who instruct participants on strategies, tactics, and sportsmanship.
- Intermediate (orange/green ball) sessions for second- to fifth-graders are Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday at 3:45 pm at FBMS. Click here to verify availability.
- Competitive (USTA L7) sessions for fifth graders and older are Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday at 4:30 pm at FBMS. Click here to verify availability.

Free Houston Tennis Association Clinics at Oak Forest Park
The HTA offers free tennis clinics at Oak Forest Park on Monday and Thursday afternoons for new tennis players ages 6-18 until November 19, 2026. HTA coaches pair players up rather than standing them in lines, because tennis is a sending and receiving game — you learn it by hitting with someone, not by waiting your turn.
- 4:15-5:15 Red Ball (6-10 year olds)
- 5:15-6:15 Orange Ball (11-14)
What to bring? Water bottle and a hat; Athletic shoes with a flat, non‑marking sole; A racquet if you have one. If you don't, we will have one for you.

Free HTA Orange & Green Ball Development Camp
The HTA Development Camps are a free player development series for Orange and Green Ball players ready to elevate their game. Held at Lost Forest Tennis Club, the camps run four times throughout the year, giving developing players a focused and fun environment to improve consistency and match play.
During each session, players will engage in partner-based hitting and competitive team-based match play. Kids will work on key aspects of their game, including groundstroke consistency, serve and return, transition to the net, and all-court play. Beyond the technical side, the camps also emphasize character development and match journaling, helping kids build mental habits alongside their on-court skills — all while making new friends and having a great time on court.
