To officially kick off the Development Team's Spring 2026 season, Coach Samintra Charles welcomed Principal Kemuel De Castro of Frank Black Middle School (FBMS) to the tennis community's breakfast gathering today.
Along with students, parents, coaches, and booster club leaders, Mr. De Castro congratulated everyone on their achievements and expressed his full support for the FBMS tennis program.
"We are very impressed with the engagement of the tennis community and hope that our competitive team's inaugural season will be a great success."
"Most importantly, FBMS sees a bright future for the next academic year, as both new and returning students participate in this unique offering."
During the March 19, 2026, breakfast, updates on the facility development, match schedules, and student engagement were discussed by the booster club members, such as the following:
Mrs. Brawley presented the competitive team's expanding schedule for the 2026 season, which includes matches against other middle schools. Mrs. Rastelli discussed various fundraising opportunities, including the college logo program. Mrs. Dudley provided an update on the Waltrip High School tennis team and the enhancements to the courts, such as the installation of new windscreens.
Coach Don Hackett also reviewed the development team's curriculum, the additional coaches, and shared the strategic goal of integrating tennis programs across elementary, middle, and high schools.
Additional discussions focused on ensuring that access to the FBMS tennis center aligns with HISD's policies and the objective of providing a safe and secure environment for all HISD students to participate in the game of tennis.
