Tennis Camps Are Transformative: Building Champions On and Off the Court in 2026

Aspiring junior tennis players returned from a June 2026 training session at the Austin Tennis Academy (ATA) with strong enthusiasm, highlighting the academy's innovative coaching methods, passionate instructors, and supportive community atmosphere.

Arjun Patel, an accomplished player from the Oak Forest community in Houston, described the experience as both enjoyable and eye-opening.

"My time at the ATA taught me that there are measurable bounds at each level of play," Patel said. "The first day presented some challenges due to the academy's unique approach, which differs from more conventional coaching methods."

"It was rough because they taught differently than other coaches do. But it was very thought out — I was able to get the hang of things and start learning quickly. I will need these skills next year, competing at the high school level."

Fellow player Oliver Wojecki, a co-captain at Frank Black Middle School, a Title 1, Part A school, also praised the ATA coaching staff.

"The coaches gave many pointers and tips and were really passionate," he noted.

Both players, including Saajun Patel, an Oak Forest Elementary school graduate, summed up their time at ATA by saying, "We had a great experience and would love to return next summer."

The ATA has built an impressive legacy over the past two decades.

The program has produced numerous college players and 24 college team captains, including notable alums such as Matthew Bain at Texas A&M.

Recent highlights include 20 ATA players qualifying for the prestigious USTA L1 National Clay Court Championships. ATA standout Aya Manning continued her strong momentum in 2026 with additional national-level success and will soon join the University of North Carolina's tennis team.

This record of achievement reflects ATA's holistic player development pathway. The academy combines purposeful on-court training, competitive readiness, leadership development, character building, and academics to develop not only skilled athletes but well-rounded "citizens of significance."

Led by CEO and Head Coach Jack Newman, ATA integrates elite tennis training with academics through its ATA College Prep program. Newman's philosophy centers on long-term impact beyond the court.

"ATA's number one focus is changing the trajectory of kids' lives," he has stated, to help junior players become better people than they otherwise might have been.

Located about 20 miles west of downtown Austin, the academy's modern facilities feature multiple well-maintained hard and clay courts ideal for group training, individual instruction, and high-level competition.
